Teamwork & Professional Growth  •  Excellent Benefits  •  Positive Work Environment  •  Great Location

During the college recruiting season, we look for organized, enthusiastic, goal-oriented individuals who enjoy challenges. A staff accountant is responsible for assisting in compilations, reviews, and audits; as well as completing various types of tax returns. Duties also include aiding clients in general ledger functions, preparing and analyzing financial statements, and completing research projects. A common question among prospective staff members is “what is a typical day for a staff accountant at Pasquesi Sheppard LLC?” There is no typical day due to the variety of work and clients. Our clients consist of high-net worth individuals, small–midsized, closely-held companies, trusts, estates, as well as not-for-profit entities. We have clients in the service, manufacturing and construction industries.

The first year for a staff accountant would typically consist of the following:

Initially, time is spent in the office receiving one-on-one training. Fellow staff members would assist you in preparing tax returns, walking through the basic steps of an attestation engagement and explaining how the firm works. Pasquesi Sheppard LLC has an open door policy which encourages new staff members to ask questions of anyone in the firm at any time. We want you to use all of the available resources in order to aid your professional development.

Our summer busy season runs from mid July through early September. This consists of performing compilations, reviews and audits for our clients with June 30 year ends. These clients are mainly not-for-profit clients such as churches, schools and various charitable organizations. New staff members work as part of a team to perform the engagement by obtaining information from clients, completing work papers, assisting in drafting financial statements, and preparing the tax return. Throughout the engagement, other staff and managers are there to answer questions and explain each step of the process. We not only want you to learn the procedures, but also understand the big picture. During the fall and early winter, training will continue in preparation for tax season. Additional engagements are performed for clients who have September 30 year ends. This is also a time where focus is directed to continuing education. Staff members are encouraged to attend seminars and classes on areas of interest in order to strengthen their knowledge. Tax season begins in the middle of January and runs through April 15. A first year staff member can expect to average 55 hours per week. Compilation, reviews, and audits are performed for those clients with December 31 year ends. The majority of the tax returns completed by a first year staff member will be S Corporation, individual and trust returns. Again, others will be available to assist in the preparation of the returns. During this busy time, we recognize that training is a constant process. Time is set aside to review tax returns, focusing on those areas in need of improvement, as well as successes. Enjoy company outingsOnce April 15 comes and goes, Pasquesi Sheppard LLC implements half day Fridays to compensate for the long hours of tax season (mid April through mid July). Celebrations occur throughout the year with an April 15th party, a summer outing, and a holiday party. Other benefits include 20 days personal time off, 401 K plan, profit sharing, sponsored continuing education, health and life insurance and competitive salary. We are steps away from the Lake Forest Metra. Currently, Pasquesi Sheppard LLC recruits mainly through college programs. Please do not submit resumes online.
